If you’re struggling with headaches or migraines, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to live with them.
At Freeform Chiropractic, we focus on addressing the root cause of your pain — not just masking symptoms with medication. In many cases, tension headaches and migraines are connected to dehydration, poor posture, and muscle imbalances in the neck and upper spine.

Here are a few simple, effective tips you can start at home to ease discomfort and support long-term relief.

WHY HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES HAPPEN

Most headaches aren’t random — they often result from stress, posture, dehydration, or spinal misalignment. When the neck loses its natural curve, it can place extra tension on the surrounding muscles and nerves, creating that “band of pressure” around your head.

Common triggers we see at our clinic include:

  • Poor neck posture from screens and devices
  • Dehydration
  • Stress and muscle tension
  • Lack of sleep
  • Misalignments in the cervical spine

3 SIMPLE AT-HOME TIPS FOR HEADACHE RELIEF

1. STAY HYDRATED

Dehydration is one of the most common — and most overlooked — causes of headaches.
Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day, and more if you’re active or under stress. A well-hydrated body helps improve circulation and reduce tension in the muscles and blood vessels around your head and neck.

2. CHECK YOUR NECK AND HEAD POSITION

We’re designed to have a natural curve in the neck. When that curve flattens or shifts forward (often from looking down at phones or computers), it increases stress on the muscles and nerves that can trigger headaches.
Try this:

  • Roll up a small towel or use a water bottle.
  • Lay on it so it supports the curve of your neck.
  • Relax in this position for 2–3 minutes.

This simple posture reset helps reduce strain and restore alignment.

3. TRY THIS GENTLE NECK STRETCH

This movement helps release tension and activate the muscles that often contribute to headaches and migraines.
How to do it:

  1. Sit or stand tall with your shoulders relaxed.
  2. Extend one arm and hold up your thumb.
  3. Keep your eyes on your thumb as you move it up and out to the side — stopping at shoulder level.
  4. Repeat this motion five times on each side.
  5. For an extra stretch, gently let your head fall back toward your shoulder at the end of the movement.

This exercise strengthens and mobilizes tight or weak neck muscles, helping to reduce headache frequency and intensity.

Always move gently and stop if anything feels painful.

WHEN TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR

At-home tips are great for managing occasional headaches, but if your pain:

  • Keeps coming back
  • Is accompanied by neck stiffness or nerve symptoms
  • Doesn’t improve within a week

…it may be time for a professional evaluation.
At Freeform Chiropractic, we identify the true source of your headaches — whether it’s spinal misalignment, posture imbalance, or muscle tension — and create a personalized plan to correct it.
